Health: Rehydrating skin nature’s way

Being healthy naturally

After a winter indoors, your skin can appear dull and dry, but it is possible to reverse this without fancy creams and serums. Skin can be rehydrated through water-rich foods packed with antioxidants and vitamins. "Consider a trip to the grocery store like a mini-spa getaway," says registered dietician Holley Grainger.

Shop for foods that are rich in Omega 3s like salmon, flaxseed, and walnuts to keep skin cells moisturised and less dry. "Also try high moisture produce such as lettuce, melon, and citrus to hydrate your body on the inside and outside," Holley recommends.

To restore damaged skin, choose fruits such as strawberries that are rich in vitamin C and help produce collagen.

A rainbow of beta-carotene-rich fruits and vegetables like melon, squash and carrots also help rebuild skin cells and reduce signs of ageing. The antioxidants found in these foods protect skin that is attacked every day by air pollution and free radicals.
