People & Lifestyle: TGV carriage transformed into disco

All aboard the party train

The TGV: an efficient, quiet service designed to get you to your destination as quickly and comfortably as possible. A dancefloor: part of a nightclub where alcohol-fuelled revellers move to music. And what do you get if you combine these two? The iDNight, a dance party on a TGV.

Launched this weekend, the train departed Paris at 11.47pm. Fifteen minutes later, DJs began playing house music in the restaurant car, creating a travelling night club. Dancers partied in Paris, Lyon, Avignon and Marseille, finally arriving in Nice at 11am. Perhaps the bar would have disappointed the more sophisticated drinker, as it is said to have only stocked beer and alcopops, but free coffee was served to help clubbers last the eleven hour party.

This new night out is being offered from Paris to thirteen destinations, including towns such as Biarritz on the West coast and a number of stations in the Riviera. iDNight have created ten ‘commandments’ to keep the party-goers in order, and with ticket prices starting at fifteen euro, this craze is expected to take off.

Whether many people could stay on their feet for an eleven hour party or not, this novel way of partying certainly makes a change from a night out in your home town. (GC)
