Italian Riviera: Sanremo and Imperia celebrate South American music

The Ligurian seaside town of Sanremo will be ringing to the sound of South American music as the first of two concerts takes place today at 4.30pm.

On the programme: "Bachianas Brasileras", between Bach and Brasilian traditional music, "Nostalgico" by Juliàn Plaza, "El ùltimo Café" by Héctor Luciano Stamponi and "Mi Buenos Aires Querido" by Carlos Gardel. Directed by Argentine-born Daniel Pacitti, Artistic director of the Giuseppe Verdi Lyrical Theatre of Trieste, the concerts also feature works by two French composers. They are: "Masques et Beraamasques" by Gabriel Fauré and "Le Tombeau de Couperin" by Maurice Ravel.

Today's event takes place at 4.30pm at the "Teatro del Opera" in Sanremo's Casino. The second concert is on December 3 at the "Teatro Cavour" in Imperia at 9pm.
