France’s public sector midwives went on strike on 22nd May, demanding more respect and recognition but also a larger financial return for the part they play in the daily lives of families throughout the country. While the midwives, or ‘wise women’ as they are called in French, have reassured expectant mothers that they will not be ignored, the group certainly made its feeling known as midwives around the country left their posts and protested in the streets outside France's maternity units.
