The string of hot summer days on the Côte d’Azur may have been interrupted by showers, but they are nothing compared to the torrential downpours that have ravaged the south west of France this week. Since Tuesday 18th June, two people have died in the worst flooding the region has known in more than 70 years. France’s Council of Ministers has appointed Adolphe Colrat as Christophe Mirmand’s successor, giving the department its third prefect in as many years.
