Vallauris museums to display new collections

At the beginning of the decade the respective Magnelli and Ceramics museums of Vallauris began acquiring a variety of important art works with the help of the town hall. These paintings, ceramics, engravings, and tapestries will now be displayed in a joint exhibition until the 26th November, 2007.

Important 20th century artists with a bond to the south of France will be one focus of the collection. Works by the renowned Spanish sculptor and painter Picasso will be displayed – the artist spent much of his life in France and died whilst entertaining guests in his Mougins home.

Belarus born painter Chagall will also feature as he lived in Provence and was buried in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Visitors will be able to see ceramics dating back from the 19th century as well as selection of contemporary pieces.

Musée Magnelli, Musée de la Céramique. Place de la libération, 06220 Vallauris.

Open every day (except Tuesday) 10am – 12am and 2pm – 5pm. 3.25 Euro.
