Arts & Culture: New book recalls a classic era in sport

The Golden Age of F1

Few spectator sports generate such excitement as Formula 1. The name refers to the most advanced and competitive of the FIA's racing formulae, a raw combination of speed, skill and daring that for nearly 50 years has captured the imagination of one famous photographer.

An idea gift for petrol heads: The Golden Age of Formula 1 offers 216 pages with 161 photographs

Rainer W. Schlegelmilch has been covering all the great names in racing since 1962, his unique style capturing the drama of this action-charged sport. His latest book has now been published.

Entitled The Golden Age of Formula 1, with a foreword by Sir Jackie Stewart, it is an ideal gift for lovers of fine photography, fast cars or history. The book takes readers back to the glory years of the 1960s, an era of now vintage cars, big-name champions and heart-stopping victories.

All the famous names are here: Jim Clark, Jacky Ickx and Jack Brabham to name a few. With Schlegelmilch's compelling photographs, this volume takes fans so close they can almost smell the burning rubber and hear the engines roar.

The 216 page hardback features no less than 161 duotone photographs with text in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
