Shadows in the Sea: Szczesny’s set of sensational sculptures can be seen in Saint-Tropez from the 8th of April until the 7th of June

From the 8th of April until the 7th of June six large sculptures by the Munich-born artist will feature in the port and town centre. Szczesny's Saint-Tropez venture Shadows in the Sea has been sponsored by the German division of the car company, Jaguar.

Three different sets of Szczesny’s black silhouette statues are separately touring around Europe, appearing in some of the continents most stunning landscapes. Each set has been carefully blended in to the beauty and elegance of the surrounding panorama.

His exhibition Shadows in the Snow enchanted art lovers in St. Moritz this winter, whilst another set of statues, entitled Shadows in the Sand, are due to appear against the backdrop of the rough and never ending horizon of the Isle of Sylt, near to the Danish/German border.

To coincide with his exhibition, Saint-Tropez’s Hotel Château de la Messardiere will present an additional selection of Szczesny's other works from the 21st of April until the 31st of October. It will comprise of pictures, ceramics and sculptures.

The easy-going German, with a zest for life, sees himself as a child of ‘the south’ and the sun, "I am becoming more and more a Tropezian," he told The Riviera Times back in September 2009. "It's my artistic residence," he added, noting that Saint-Tropez has been called home by a whole host of famous artists before him, most notably the world renowned masters Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.

A true journeyman, Szczesny has dabbled in graphics, sculptures, paintings, photography, stage and fashion design. Yet he still keeps a pure ideology when it comes to art. He views the classical depiction of Eve as the "embodiment of the eternal female" and this is something he tries to capture in his statues, as well as the exciting dialogue between man and nature.
