Art & Culture: How one association opens doors to classical music in supporting the regional orchestra
Everyone's privilege
Founder member and President of the Association, Lenny Spangberg from Lenny Spangberg Consulting, has been part of it since the very beginning and has lost none of his enthusiasm.
"Our main aim is to support the Cannes PACA Regional Orchestra, but at the same time we are also keen to make music accessible to many more people." Based on this idea, nearly 11 years ago four entrepreneurs from different industry sectors on the Côte d'Azur got together and decided to give their employees a chance to attend quality concerts at a very low price and often for nothing.
"We are bringing the world of classical music and business together," enthuses the founder. "We also accompany the orchestra to all its musical, social and charitable activities and events." Today, there are 28 members and the association hopes that more companies will join.
A popular social and musical feature of the association is the Andantino Choir of employees from across the spectrum of members. Twice a year they take to the stage to show off their talents alongside the orchestra.
Spangberg says the idea for Andantino came from the highly successful AIDA project which has been supporting the Orchestre du Capitole in Toulouse for many years.
He is also keen to stress that today the Cannes PACA Regional Orchestra under Philippe Bender urgently needs more support because the Conseil Général of the Alpes-Maritimes has cut its grant allocation quite substantially.
As he points out, the orchestra is a great ambassador and has a high profile abroad, touring to countries as far afield as China and Japan, as well as Spain, Italy, Germany and Austria. Andantino members are sometimes invited to go along which is always, he says, a great privilege.
The orchestra was born out of the Orchestre RTF (Radio Télévision Française) in 1934, and now has its headquarters in Cannes-la-Bocca.
