Service: plan ahead on Tuesday 12th as public transport and air travel faces severe disruption

Trains, planes and automobiles halted by strike

A third round of strikes, caused by the on going dispute between unions and the French government over pension reform, is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Tuesday 12th October. Following the same pattern as the previous strikes, public transport across the region is expected to be heavily disrupted.

Trams in Nice are one form of public transport seriously hit by the general strikes taking place across France on Tuesday

Only around one in three local express train services will run tomorrow and just a quarter of the high speed TGV trains that normally come in and out of the region will be in operation.

In Nice, the city trams will be cancelled and only the airport buses will be running as normal.

Air traffic is also likely to suffer delays and cancellations as a consequence of the strike. However, Easyjet say that they are hoping 73 per cent of their flights will still take off as scheduled.

In addition to those working in transport, other public sector workers are expected to strike, with thousands of protesters taking to the street to demonstrate against the reforms. The disruption to services may continue further into the week. Transport union CGT is even contemplating extending the industrial action, with a decision expected to be made by them in the next 24 hours.
