Business: Practical training and what you need to know
Want to hire an intern?
A training agreement must be signed between the company, the student and their school for all practical training periods (except those for training courses or for young people under age 16). In this training agreement should be included the beginning and the end dates of the practical training period, the weekly working hours as well as the amount of the sum that will be paid to the student.
As of the 1st September 2010, the practical training period must be an integral part of a pedagogical course and must follow these two conditions:
- the main purpose and the organisation of the practical training period must be appropriate to the pursued studies of the student
- and the student must provide a final report (which will be evaluated by their school) at the end of the practical training period.
The status of the students is very particular and the student cannot be paid like a "normal" employee of the company. The company decides which sum will be given to the student (for a practical training period over two months) but the monthly amount cannot be less than 436.05 euros exempt of social charges for a 35 hour working week.
