Business: Giant Swedish home décor store threatens to move site to Ventimiglia

IKEA mounts pressure for new site at Mougins

The controversial installation of the giant Swedish home décor and furniture store, IKEA, in the small Alpes-Maritimes town of Mougins has hit a critical point. The store has mounted pressure on the town to grant permission for the construction of the 17,085m2 store. If not, they have threatened to move their plans across the Italian border to Ventimiglia.

The town hall in Mougins is apparently doing everything in its power to smooth the way for the construction of the IKEA store, despite some peoples’ worries that traffic will paralyze local roads. However the delay in the go-ahead appears to be frustrating the store's management team, who had highlighted the town as the perfect location between the major Mediterranean urban zones of Nice and Cannes. This comes on the eve of an open public debate on September 18, when residents can partake in the discussions.
