The bijou Annonciade Museum has recently acquired an important addition to its expanding art collection. Entitled La jeune femme assise sur les rivages d'Agay, the painting is by the influential French artist Louis Valtat (1869-1952) and is one of about 20 produced by the artist in a series entitled Notations d’Agay 1899.

However after the traumas of last week’s devastating floods, many events have been cancelled in Var towns (for example La Valette and La Garde) out of respect for those who perished. And while the department’s capital Toulon is continuing with a full programme of events, the city council is not officially taking part, and collection boxes will be out in force to raise funds for those worst affected by the deluge.
