A hidden treasure of history
Few people are aware of the existence of the newly restored Saint Bernardin Chapel with its 16th century Neo-Gothic façade, tucked away in a side street of Antibes old town. The restoration, undertaken by Antibes council, has just been recognised for its excellence and received the prestigious Departmental Heritage Award.

Visitors walking along the ramparts of old Antibes on a certain afternoon in September will hardly believe their eyes, as down in Safranier square a scene straight from a Marcel Pagnol novel is enacted. Men wearing clothes from the beginning of the last century are pressing grapes in a large wooden vat, cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, many in Provençal dress, while a priest in cassock and hat looks on.
