Provence & Côte d'Azur: New theatre company hits the Riviera

New English-language theatre

A new theatre company has been launched in the south of France, featuring some of the industry's most respected stars of the stage and screen. The South of France English Theatre is the only professional English-speaking company on the Riviera, and has announced an interesting line-up for 2012.

Professional English language theatre makes its debut on 14th February, Valbonne

Kicking off the season is Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park, a romantic comedy directed by Brian Peck and starring Jennifer Wilson. The comedy, written by Neil Simon, features a conservative young lawyer and his irrepressible bride who are adjusting to marital life after the ecstasy of the honeymoon, learning how to live with each other in a tiny 5th floor apartment in a Manhattan brownstone.

Given that the theatre's debut performance coincides with Valentine’s Day on 14th February, it offers a timely and amusing take on the trials and tribulations of love, marriage and life. It is on at the Pres Des Arts in Valbonne. People who buy a membership to the theatre club are also welcome to attend the launch day party after the show.

Classic thriller Deathtrap follows in April, a show which holds the record for longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway, and Michael Frayn's award-winning play Noises Off in September.

The group also offers theatre workshops and master classes for schools and individuals.
