Event: The 6th annual Les Plages Électroniques festival debuts tomorrow

Electronic beats, Musical feats

A-Trak, Satellit, and Slipmuzik will invade the grainy beaches of Cannes tomorrow. But what may sound like spaceships from beyond, are actually the names of artists performing in the 6th annual Les Plages Électroniques Festival.

Starting tomorrow, Electro music lovers will congregate on the Plage du Palais des Festivals every Wednesday until August 18. Electro music, a genre defined by its upbeat tunes and electronic instruments, is first on the agenda to entertain crowds.

Each concert showcases a different genre of electronic music. The programme also includes Dubstep, Soulful House, Techno, Electropical Hip Hop, and Drum and Bass artists from Great Britain, France, and the United States. In the past two years over 57,000 spectators have attended, fulfilling the organisers’ mission to increase accessibility to electronic music.

While music and artists differ year to year, Les Plages Électroniques has made changes that may not be as visible. This year the event increased its environmentally cautious efforts. In addition to cleaning the beaches after performances, the event will provide more transportation to and from the event and decrease the number of pamphlets printed.

Tickets range from 8 euros for one show to 31.80 euros for the festival pass and can be purchased on www.plages-electroniques.com.
