Events: No room for Euro-sceptics as the EC takes centre stage on the Côte d'Azur this weekend

The Riviera celebrates Europe

On Sunday 9th May, towns across the region will celebrate the 4th European Day and celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which in 1950 laid the foundations on which the modern-day European Community was built.

Numerous events will be taking place over the weekend that will highlight positive European values, aim to connect the continent's different nationalities and provide information about EU policy and institutions.

In Cannes, for example, the fête, Vive l’Europe à Cannes, offers residents and visitors from different European countries a great opportunity to meet each other and to share their respective cultures.

On the occasion of the annual Palais Longchamp spring fair, Marseille will also be flying the European flag with pride. There will be family games, art workshops for children, a European Village and information stands organised by the European Commission's partners in the Palais Longchamp.

European Day in Cannes

10am-6pm : Information stands about Europe

2pm : Welcome speech by Bernard Brochand, Deputy Mayor of Cannes, to the representatives from the 27 countries of the EU, each wearing their traditional costumes.

-A homage to Robert Schumann

-The European Hymn by young violinists

3pm-6pm: An afternoon of European music from the Baladins de Cannes.
