Car parks and museum entries in Nice free from this week 03.07.2008 / As shoppers hit the streets of Nice in search of bargains in this weeks
summer sales, it has been announced that seven car parks and museums in
the city will be free to access as of this week.
Seven of the city’s car parks have offered shoppers the chance to
benefit from one hour and twenty minutes of free parking, which will
fill their pockets with an added 2.80 euro to spend on their purchases.
If the specified time is exceeded though, full prices apply and the
period spent parked in the car park will need to be paid in full.
If that wasn’t enough, museums and galleries across the municipality
are also opening their doors to visitors free of charge. Tourists and
Azuréens won’t pay a cent in over 15 establishments as culture takes a
dignified place amongst the hordes on the city’s busy shopping streets.
Niçoises Hollywood twins
Angelina has been admitted to a hospital in Nice 02.07.2008 / Angelina and Brad’s twins will be Niçoises. It has been reported that
on Sunday at 2pm, Angelina was taken by helicopter to the Fondation
Lenval hospital in Nice, where she was admitted into obstetric care. It
is here, and not in Marseille or Monaco as the press have previously
asserted, that the Hollywood star will soon give birth. Apparently
Angelina’s admission has been planned for at least two months.
After Brad and Angelina, and their family, daughter Shiloh and their
three adopted children, Maddox, Pax and Zahara, moved to the Côte
d’Azur at the end of April, they reportedly chose to consult an
obstetric gynaecologist from Nice, Dr Michel Sussman, who is located at
the heart of the pedestrian zone.
It seems the couple have been trying to mislead the press where their
pregnancy plans are concerned, and they certainly succeeded. The most
famous pregnant woman in the world is now staying on the fifth floor of
the Vasarélien building at the Fondation Lenval. She is expected to
give birth within days to two twin girls. Angelina is said to be in the
most beautiful room at the Fondation, with a stunning view of the Baie
des Anges. She is reported to have booked four rooms, and of course her
bodyguard is present.
So the inhabitants of Nice now have a claim to fame, soon Brad and
Angelina’s twins will have been born in the same town as them.
Calling shopaholics and bargain-hunters
It’s time to hit the sales 02.07.2008 / Throughout the Alpes-Maritimes, stores will slash their prices for the
summer sales from 2nd July to 12th August. Sales in the Var will also
begin today, running until 6th August.
Visitors from abroad may be surprised that it is the préfets of each
departement who set the sales dates in France, in comparison to
individual stores in other countries. The Minister of the Economy,
Christine Lagarde, gave the préfets a choice of 15th June or 2nd July
as the starting date for the summer sales, and it seems the
Alpes-Maritimes wanted to keep its shopaholics in anticipation until
the later date.
2008 is the last year of nationwide sales as we know them. From next
year, shops will also be allowed to select an extra two weeks to hold
their own sales, in addition to the fixed national sales, but they must
finish at least one month before the official sales period. The fixed
winter and summer sales will also be reduced from six weeks to five
weeks.
So bargain-hunters should get their cards ready and make the most of the lengthy sales while they last.
