Traditionally, carnival time gave the public a chance to let off some steam and indulge themselves before the deprivations of Lent. Nowadays, it's a perfect excuse to break up the boredom that arrives with winter and, this being the Côte d’Azur, a way of attracting tourists in the low season when the weather has a good chance of being fine. Whether it's giant papier mâché heads or elephants adorned with citrus fruit, carnivals are exciting, colourful, and often downright weird. Provence & Côte d'Azur: Monaco remembers 10 year anniversary of US terrorist attacks with a special service
Monaco will be holding a peace ceremony on Sunday 10th September to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US. Father Bill McCandless, a witness to the Pentagon attack, will be offering a sermon during this special event.
