Arts & Culture: New production of Lucio Silla in Nice this month

PACA orchestra accompanies Mozart opera

In addition to its regular programme of concerts, the Regional Cannes Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur (PACA) Orchestra accompanies Nice Opera this month in a brand new production of one of Mozart’s lesser known operas.

The orchestra’s schedule for February is as follows:

Sunday 7 February at 4.30pm in the Théâtre Croisette in Cannes: final concert in the Beethoven cycle with Doron Salomon, as guest conductor, Xavier Phillips on cello, Jean-Marc Phillips Varjabédia on violin and Vahan Mardirossian on piano.

Friday 19 February at 8pm, Sunday 21st at 2.30pm and Tuesday 23rd at 8pm the orchestra accompanies the Nice Opera at the Théâtre de l’Opéra Nice for a new production of Mozart’s Lucio Silla. Bruce Ford plays Lucio Silla, with Daniela Bruera as Giunia, Brigitte Hool as Celia, Christine Knorren as Cecilio and Eleonore Marguerre as Lucio Cinna.

Sunday 21st February at 4.30pm at the Théâtre Croisette in Cannes sees the start of a new cycle of concerts which pay tribute to female composers and include at least one work by a woman. Philippe Bender conducts the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice for this one with Boris Berezovsky on piano. On the programme: Mercè Pons (1968, Palma) – Contradiccions, plus Rachmaninov and Dimitri Chostakovitch.

Sunday 28th February at 4.30pm at the Théâtre Croisette in Cannes Philippe Bender conducts the Cannes PACA Regional Orchestra and pianist Michel Dalberto in Borne – Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
