A magic muse

With passion and respect for the classic beauty of man’s eternal muse, they reflect the female universe from a very personal point of view, that of Turello who is himself a photographer.

Photographs from the early 20th century begin with the “pictorialists” and chart the evolution of the art form and the subject’s status to the present day, showing images of woman as independent, proud, radiant, sensitive and fragile.

As Turello explains, over the 15 years that he took to gather the collection working with art critic Giuliana Scimé, every acquisition he made was “with the intention of scrupulously completing a particular vision, state of mind or period in history.”

Among the artists on show are Alice Boughton, Gertrude Käsebier, Man Ray, George H. Seeley, Edward J. Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz which open the exhibition, followed by iconic imagaes respresenting Colette by André Kertez, Lella by Edouard Boubat, Mademoiselle Anita by Robert Doisneau and Srinagar Kashmir by Henri Cartier-Bresson, among others.

Photographs by Britain’s David Bailey, William Klein and Helmut Newton are also on show, alongside those of talented young professionals of the new American wave with captivating and aggressive shots by the likes of Curtis Eberhardt, David Drebin and Ryan Michael Kelly.

“Mirrors of the Magic Muse” is open from 1pm to 7pm every day except Mondays. Entrance is free. CL
