Business: Fairmont Monte-Carlo and Grimaldi Forum garner top accolades at 2010 M&IT Awards in London

Three gold medals for Monaco!

The country may not be much bigger than London’s Hyde Park, but the tiny Principality of Monaco walked off with three big prizes at the 2010 M&IT Awards (Meeting & Incentive Travel) held in the Novotel London West on Monday 22 February. The Fairmont Monte-Carlo, Grimaldi Forum, and the Tourism and Congresses Department were all voted the best in their category.

Organised by the English trade magazine Meeting & Incentive Travel, the awards are based on readers’ opinions with votes being audited and verified by the independent Audit Bureau of Circulations. Over 7,600 participated in recognising excellence and professionalism in 22 categories.

The Fairmont Monte Carlo was among 274 nominees in its sector of “Best Hotel outside Great Britain”, winning the gold prize ahead of other prestigious establishments such as the Ritz Carlton Arts in Barcelona, the Four Seasons in Istanbul and Malta’s Hilton Hotel.

The Grimaldi Forum was voted “Best Congress Centre outside Great Britain”, the seventh time the business and cultural complex has won this award in the last eight years, beating its rivals in Cape Town, Vancouver and the Suntec Singapore. Monaco also walked away with the top accolade as “Best Convention Bureau outside Great Britain”, with the Tourism and Congresses Department coming out on top ahead of its equivalents in Barcelona, Vienna and Hong Kong.

The triple gold recognition of Destination Monaco as being among leaders in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) sector is just reward for the many initiatives taken over the last few years to ensure that the tourism department’s slogan “Need a venue, we offer you a country” really does live up to its name.
