Events: Two exhibitions open at the hotel as the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival begins

Circus feted in photos at the Fairmont

An exhibition of striking photographs depicting life backstage at the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival (pictured left) by Thierry Choquard is one of two taking place at the Fairmont Monte Carlo hotel.

Until 24 January the hotel will host 22 images by two photographers from Monaco, Sebastien Darrasse and Jean-Marc Bernard, who have been following this festival for over ten years. As they put it: “To get a good shot of anything, you have to contemplate, admire and above all be astounded by the subject, and that is so easy with the magical world of the circus.”

Meanwhile on the 17th, at the gala night ceremony in the Fairmont’s Salle d’Or when the festival’s Clown Awards will be presented, 16 giant photographs by Thierry Choquard will be on display. Over the last two years, this photographer has been discovering the festival from a different angle, capturing the artists as they wait their turn in the corridors, their conentration behind the curtain, and the circus as viewed from the top tiers highlighting the relationship between the public and the artists in the ring.
